Bicycle Dreams
Frozen flakes,
each one different from the next
tumble gently
to fulfill their divine calling
reforming this landscape
into a wintry haven,
providing a cooling respite
for parked bicycles
which dream
of the fun in the rolling
through those upcoming
steamy
'dog days' of summer.
Jeanne I. Lakatos 2011

Bicycles dreaming ~ why not? We don't have 'dog days' in Central Oregon, but I do remember them in Atlanta, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Washington DC and Orlando! I don't miss them one little bit. Your poem is delightful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Helen! I used to live in HOTlanta, but recently, Connecticut feels like it. I've read that we should be expecting these weather extremes for a long time. Perhaps, those 'dog days' will eventually make it up to Oregon, too. ; )
ReplyDeleteSure have those dog days of summer here in Florida, with the thoughts of snow something we seek out for skiing holidays! Sweet poem for the bikes.
ReplyDeleteHere is mine: Repeat Echo
This makes me think of me - dreaming of summer in the winter & dreaming of
ReplyDeletewinter in the summer :)
nice...right now i am dreaming of the snow...to cut this 100 degree heat...smiles...of a bike trip down a big hill to get the wind blowing...i bet they miss their friends on long winters...nice jam
ReplyDelete"rolling through the dog days of summer" dreams was an inspired moment here, Jeanne.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, top quality poetry, Jeanne. Not sure if the 'dream of the fun in the rolling' phrase might need a bit of honing? (he said respectfully)
ReplyDeleteLove your header!
That's a lovely ice-cream of a poem! Unexpected too.
ReplyDeleteCould do with some dog-days here though. I think I've forgotten what summer should be like.
Chef: Oh yes, Florida... I could never live in that heat! I lived in Hotlanta for 12 years. Sweat city! (But the gardenias are divine!)
ReplyDeleteDana: Yep! I suppose we should just enjoy what we get when we get it, right? :)
Brian: hahaha Yes, they probably do! Thanks!
Chris: Thank you... It was the best I could do with the heat melting my brain.
Peter: I figured you'd enjoy seeing that one again! Thanks for the tip. I'll consider it.
Titus: Thank you! Just after we had the heat wave, we had horrendous storms, tornados locally, and now, we've had a series of pretty chilly, damp days. I guess I shouldn't wish so hard, huh? ; )
Ah, I bet that picture was taken during an unexpected snowfall. I can't imagine biking in snow. The idea of bicycles dreaming is imaginative. I bet they shiver too...in snow!
ReplyDeleteMary, they do! Growing up in Michigan, sometimes the spring months meant snow still hanging around, but we'd clean off our bikes and ride them anyway... and yes, they shivered. :)
