This week, our Poetry Jam prompt asks us to reveal an unknown from a fairy tale or myth. I've chosen one of my favorites, The Ugly Duckling's pond.
Swans in East Lake, Danbury, Connecticut, U.S.A.
Ugly Duckling’s Pond
Reeds sway
along the water’s edge
as gentle waves
from graceful paddling
of a family of swans
lap up
heartbroken tears
embrace
distorted reflections
of a duckling
furtive and yearning.
Jeanne I. Lakatos 2011

I like the play on lapping.
ReplyDeletePoor little guy at least had a nice place to grow up.
cute and funny.
ReplyDeletethe imagery your make is very dreamy.
Dear Jeanne: "furtive and yearning" poor old dear ugly duckling! Probably will turn into a nerd duck-goose! My favourite kind. White swan guys are so...what's the word?
ReplyDeleteThank you, kindly, Barbara! Indeed a very fine place!
ReplyDeleteCello: Thank you!
Anonymous: ... Intriguing? Thanks for dropping by.
I like the "furtive & yearning" phrase too - that's probably exactly how he felt!
ReplyDeleteclassical theme with a lovely tale.
ReplyDeletebeautiful lines.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words, Morning!
nice...one of my fav tales...perhaps we all feel it at times...and well played against it....
ReplyDeleteYes, Brian, I agree. One reason why I like Hans Christian Andersen tales better than the Brothers Grimm.
