This week's Poetry Jam request focuses on All Hallows Eve. I've chosen to write of my patron saint, Jeanne D'Arc, whose spirit I've called upon on a number of occasions for strength and perseverance.
Joan of Arc's Death at the Stake by Hermann Stilke (1803–1860)
Jeanne D’Arc
Stalwart, spiritual,
she engages
an army
of anxious souls.
Her fate: rejection
inflamed
by the ignorant
by the ignorant
transporting her
to glorious praise
from Love’s Source.
Courage endures
through
fervent benevolence.

Wonderful tribute to a mysterious and fascinating saint. I didn't know it will be her 600th birthday this year!
ReplyDeleteWe just named our newest girl Nola Jeanne after this most special and inspiring of saints.
ReplyDeleteHer story inspires me to be braver. Your beautiful poem retells the courage of her story.
Thank you, Lola. Thank you for dropping by.
ReplyDeleteYes, St. Jeanne D'Arc is a true inspiration. Often, I've prayed to her for courage. Perhaps, your little one will, too.
ReplyDeleteThere's a wonderful old film about Joan of Arc, saw it as a teenager and was floored. I'll have to go look it up. I bow to your saint.
ReplyDeleteCertainly an excellent person to call on for inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWe've lost power here in Connecticut from a major snow storm, and it looks like it'll be days before we rejoin the 21st century. I only have a few minutes left on my computer, so....
ReplyDeleteChris: Yes, many films and even video games have been made in St. Jeanne's honor.
J Cosmo: Yes she is. I love your Halloween poem. Can't post on your blog, though.
